The CO2 tax played an important role when the average environmental performance increased by 40% among Swedish business from 1998 to 2004.


A higher international carbon price will undoubtedly help development of cleaner technologies all over the world. However, as long as fossil fuels are available and fairly cheap they will be consumed somewhere in the world.

These are results from the CERE project: "The impact of climate and energy policy on sustainability and competitiveness in Swedish Industry", commissioned by the Swedish Energy Agency.
