Course Abstract

In the lectures some general principles of the theory of extremum will be considered, and basing on these principles we will give a survey of fundamental results of the theory and application of this theory to control, natural philosophy, economics and mathematics.

There are many reasons which stimulated us to solve or investigate extremal problems. First of all I mean pragmatical goals (in economics, in control of dynamical processes in engineering etc). Then it is necessary to add the desire to explain phenomena of Nature and elementary curiosity of human race which leads them to reach the very essence of everything. The theory of extremal problems is designed to create methods and principles for solution or investigation of concrete extremal problems.
